| Tampa Bay is a huge shallow bowl bounded on the north by Tampa, on the west by St Petersburg, and on the southwest by the Gulf of Mexico. We have sailed all over the bay - where we can anyway - and then out through the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. West of the bridge is a bird sanctuary and pilot station called Egmont Key. We have spent many nights there prepping for a coastal cruise down the Gulf coast. There a billion birds here and it gets quite noisy. Off Egmont we have seen lots of dolphins and once a huge loggerhead turtle encrusted with barnacles swiming out into the Gulf.
